this week’s Thought (singular)
you know what. all you need is an apple, a kiwi, an orange, and a banana. these are the ingredients for instant soul-settling joy.
a very warm welcome to all new readers. i love new readers so much that whenever i get an email about a new reader, i manifest that they have a nap so good that they struggle to remember their name for the first thirty seconds post-wakeup. thank you for joining us. may you take a minute to marvel at how much better you fit in your body after gaining consciousness.
a very warm welcome to old readers as well. may good sense continue to prevail.
hi
i feel like i have been saying this so very often lately, but apologies. it’s been busy and i am trying to tell myself that this busy-ness is contributing to a seed about to sprout. we aren’t there yet, but we will be. there is behind-the-scenes, under-the-ground work that is being done, and i trust i trust i trust that the universe has not forgotten about me.
in the mean time, sharing the poems and songs that have kept me going.
from Why Not? by Julia Fehrenbacher
Why not, instead, love every honeyed drop of yourself, why not leap into life—belly-laughing and light, light like the soft kiss of moonlight, light like the light that you are, have always been, will always be— why not take this quickly passing day by the hand and dance like there’s no tomorrow? And if you’re too tired to dance, why not rest lightly here just as you are?
from Invictus by William Ernest Henley
Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.
Zen Poem by Ryokan (translated by John Stevens)
Like the little stream Making its way Through the mossy crevices I, too, quietly Turn clear and transparent.
